"The alumni group has been part of my weekly recovery since I stepped down. It has been such a helpful bridge in my transition from IOP to outpatient. The clients and leaders have given me the space to be truly vulnerable and honest. It is so special to continue to connect with the people I have met at Within Health. I truly value this 45 minutes each week."

"In addition to the individualized attention I received on a daily basis, Within Health also integrated perfectly into my real life. I was able to schedule programming, receive support around working a full-time job, and re-integrate myself into society. No other program has done that for me, and I think that is what makes Within truly unique."
Within patient
"The individualized attention and treatment plan make Within Health stand out from every other place I've been. From three individual therapy sessions a week to weekly dietitian sessions, nursing sessions, and care partner sessions, I was able to make some headway into my own personal issues with my eating disorder and really work on my personal recovery."
Within patient
"After seven medical stabilization hospitalizations and six failed treatment programs, I came to Within Health. Within Health was the best treatment program I have ever done and is what led me to break the treatment cycle and into a lasting recovery."
Within patient
"I love that we have the opportunity to remain in touch with people that have supported each other through a very difficult time in their lives and continue to offer and receive ongoing support."
Within patient
"We have built friendships, so it's amazing that we can continue those friendships with people we have trusted with our deepest issues."
Within patient
"I think alumni group is extremely important because many people unfortunately have to discontinue therapy too soon due to the expense, therefore if they have unresolved issues to discuss, this is the place they can get that ongoing support!"
Within patient
"Alumni group is a no judgment space where anyone who has recovered at whatever level that means for them, can keep working on self improvement as well as continue to offer reciprocal support to people they have grown deep connections with. That's KEY!"

Why eating disorder treatment is needed in Auburn

Eating disorders affect people of all ages and backgrounds—whether you’re as young as five or over 80, you could have an eating disorder at any point. In fact, 9% of Americans will have an eating disorder at some point in their lives.

Alabama eating disorder statistics

In Alabama alone, that’s 430,000 people! Only a small number of these people will take steps to get help. Someone you know in Auburn could be at risk, your loved one, your neighbor, your coworker, or even yourself. In addition to putting your life at risk, eating disorders also can put you in financial hardship. On average, Auburn caregivers provide six weeks of unpaid care to those suffering from eating disorders every year, equating to more than $350 million lost every year by those affected by eating disorders in the state of Alabama.

Help is available and just a phone call away. Our call center is open 24/7. Reach out by calling us at (866) 293-0041.

FAQs

How does the Within virtual eating disorder program work?

The Within program treats eating disorders remotely, meaning you can stay in the comfort of your home, work, or travel outside of Auburn while getting the help and support you need. You'll be connected with your treatment team, which includes a nurse, medical doctor, registered dietitian, nutritionist, therapist, and more.

You'll need clearance from your primary care doctor or medical provider before being admitted to a program. Once your onboarding and clinical assessments have been completed, you'll have access to a team of professionals licensed in Alabama via the Within app. Here, you will also be able to see your weekly schedule, join therapy sessions, and view your treatment plan.

What are the benefits of virtual treatment for eating disorders?

There are several benefits of receiving treatment for eating disorders in a remote environment. First, you'll be able to get help no matter where you live in Auburn, Alabama. No more searching for a physical treatment center that is convenient to travel to—you can connect with your treatment team all online.

Additionally, a remote treatment approach means getting help in your usual environment. In traditional in-person recovery centers, you're removed from your everyday surroundings and people, which can be your triggers. Once you return home, you need to learn how to deal with the triggers you were removed from during treatment.

Your Within treatment team will help you recognize and deal with your triggers as part of your program, which supports a longer-lasting recovery.

Does health insurance cover eating disorder treatment?

Depending on your health insurance plan, it may cover your treatment to some extent. Tell your eating disorder care team about your insurance during your initial call to see what your options are.

At Within, our team will work directly with your insurance carrier.

What can I expect from treatment?

Treating eating disorders involves several different aspects and different health professionals, so you can expect regular contact with different people throughout your treatment.

You'll have your own personal Within treatment team, licensed in Auburn, with whom you'll regularly see and connect, including a mental health professional, nutrition experts, registered dietitians, nurses, and more. They are all there to address both your mental health and physical health.

You'll learn healthy eating behaviors and healthier habits through nutritional counseling and working with a registered dietitian. In addition, you'll understand why unhealthy eating behaviors began in the first place by attending individual and family therapy. Even if your family doesn’t live locally in Auburn, they’ll still be able to participate in therapy sessions remotely—that’s the beauty of remote care.

Your treatment team will create a personalized treatment plan that will address any other mental health conditions that may be present and work to improve your physical health.

What kind of eating disorder therapy can I expect?

Individual and family-based therapy are both important during the recovery process for eating disorders. They help you work through eating disorder behaviors and allow a mental health professional to reframe how you feel about food.

Family members are encouraged to attend therapy to understand the eating disorder and learn how to support their loved ones. Whether they live in Auburn or don’t live in Alabama at all, they’ll be able to attend sessions remotely and be there to support you on your journey.

What if I move from Auburn, Alabama to another state during treatment?

The great thing about treating eating disorders online is that you won't need to leave the program if you move to another city or out of Alabama entirely. As long as you're moving to a state where we have licensed clinicians, you can continue your Within program without a problem.

Unlike in-person residential treatment options, you won't need to find another program in your new state and start over again.

What eating disorders are treated?

All types of eating disorders are treated through the Within program. Whether it's bulimia, anorexia, binge eating disorder, or other types, help is available. In addition to treating the eating disorder in question, your Within care team will also address other factors that may play a role in the disorder, such as co-occurring mental health issues and other health problems.

Help us understand your needs so we can support you

Call us today to learn more about our personalized treatment programs. A healthier life free from eating disorders is in reach.
