Eating disorders affect approximately 10.0% of residents in Florida, equal to an estimated 2,200,000 people statewide. With a total population of 22,000,000, this represents a significant behavioral-health burden in the state.

Each year, about 13,200 individuals in Florida are hospitalized for eating-disorder complications, a rate of 60.0 per 100,000 residents. Approximately 25.0% of all cases involve children and adolescents under age 18.

Eating disorders are among the deadliest mental-health conditions. In Florida, an estimated 1,100 deaths occur annually from eating-disorder-related causes, with about 30.0% of these deaths linked to suicide.

Around 40.0% of people with eating disorders in Florida receive treatment. The state has about 66 specialized eating-disorder treatment programs, a mental-health provider shortage score of 2 (0–3 scale*), and an insurance barriers index of 3 (0–3 scale). Medicaid coverage for eating-disorder services is classified as Partial.
