Family

Family support is an important part of the healing process when recovering from an eating disorder. It’s common to feel isolated when you have an eating disorder, so it’s important to lean on your loved ones and accept their help during recovery.

Including family and loved ones as part of an eating disorder treatment plan allows them to better understand the condition and learn how to offer support. Additionally, loved ones are given the tools and opportunity to heal, create a healthier home environment, and improve their communication with the person suffering from an eating disorder.

Some benefits of involving family in eating disorder recovery include promoting trust and acceptance between themselves and the person suffering from an eating disorder, dealing with conflict in a healthy and productive way, helping loved ones care for themselves, and processing any unaddressed feelings or issues within the family.
